Previously head of PR and comms at WWF-UK, Pippa Rodger has joined the animal welfare charity to help grow its international comms strategy, including the recruitment of a head of brand and regional comms managers.
Rodger takes over the role at WSPA from Mike Walton, who has gone on to take the role of marketing development manager at UNHCR.
Rodger said: ‘The charity is yet to make full use of its comms on a global scale. The role presents a real opportunity to create and build a strong global charity brand. Each country does fantastic comms work in its own right, but with the launch of a new strategy there is a real hunger to launch a global campaign.’
The news comes as WSPA has appointed Forster to help Rodger manage the first integrated global campaign calling for an end to the mass culling of dogs in response to rabies, and promoting the humane alternative of mass vaccination.
It will call on governments worldwide to tackle rabies and help save five million dogs by 2016 through mass vaccination, under the strapline ‘collars not cruelty’.
Work on the campaign is already under way, following its launch on World Rabies Day on 28 September.
Rodger will also implement a strategy incorporating soc-ial media, campaigning, fundraising, events and government lobbying, while ?using celebrity ambassador Leona Lewis.
WSPA will also be promoting its work and campaign activity through World Animal Week on 4-10 October.
Rodger has previously worked at Barnardo’s, animal welfare charity The Brooke and agency Harrison Cowley.
