Macandrew, who was NewsCorp’s director of corporate comms for Europe and Asia, and was James Murdoch’s press spokeswoman, resigned in July, around the time that the closure of the News of the World was announced.
PRWeek understands the company tried to persuade her to stay, but were unsuccessful. Instead she agreed to work her six-month notice period, which ends in December, and keep news of her resignation quiet. It is believed she has no job lined up.
Macandrew has known James Murdoch for many years. She started working with him when she was a partner at the media organisation’s financial PR agency Finsbury.
She headed up the BSkyB account, and led on the ITV deal. She kept in touch with James Murdoch during a two year career break beginning in 2007, and he appointed her to the News Corp role in 2009.
Macandrew declined to comment when contacted by PRWeek.
