The UK public would elect George W Bush as US president, according
to research carried out this week.
The NOP Solutions survey for PR Week UK confirms evidence of recent US
opinion polls about next week's presidential election - Texas governor
and Republican presidential candidate Bush is heading for the White
House.
In response to the question 'Who would you vote for in the US
election?', Bush scored a 12 point lead over vice-president and
Democratic nominee Al Gore. Bush scored 56 per cent to only 44 per cent
for Gore.
The survey suggests women are most put-off by Gore, with Bush taking a
59-41 lead among female respondents. Gore's appeal to men is more
convincing, though he still trails by six points in that category.
The research found almost 60 per cent of people believe US politicians
are more concerned with image than those in the UK. Only ten per cent
felt British power-brokers were more concerned with managing their
reputations.
A third felt there was no diference between US and UK politicians'
preoccupation with image.
