Liverpool City Council has banned council staff, including press officers, from speaking to the city's two biggest newspapers, the Liverpool Echo and the Liverpool Daily Post. The directive came from chief executive Ged Fitzgerald and council leader Joe Anderson, after the papers were leaked legal advice from Tony Blair's wife, Cherie Booth QC, to the council.

Northamptonshire County Council's former head of comms Faye Scadden - who was made redundant from the council - has been appointed as deputy director of marketing at the University of Bedfordshire. The running of Northamptonshire's comms department has been handed to comms manager Simon Deacon.

The British Film Institute has reappointed Freud Communications and Premier PR to handle PR around the London Film Festival. The BFI staged its first major pitch for a PR agency in five years, having used Freuds and film specialist Premier since 2000.

The Independent Taskforce on Student Finance Information, headed by founder Martin Lewis, has called in Kindred to handle PR for the first Student Finance Day on 14 November.
