Georgiou cranks up PR operations at waste firm Sita

Waste management firm Sita is to boost PR in the wake of last

month's appointment of a head of communications.

Achilleas Georgiou joined the company - Europe's largest waste services

operator with 6,000 staff and an annual turnover of pounds 400m in the

UK - at the turn of the year.

Sita plans to extend the use of PR agencies on a project basis. It uses

north-east agency DTW to handle PR for local authority projects. If Sita

wins further council work, more agencies will be taken on.

Sita spokeswoman Nicola Dowlen said the three-strong PR team could grow

before the end of 2001, but Georgiou would first review all PR work

before deciding on changes.

Georgiou joined Sita from the Greater London Authority, where he

developed and implemented the body's internal communications

strategy.

Prior to that, he was in charge of promoting the work of the London

Research Centre.
