Citigate loses marketing chief

LONDON - Citigate Dewe Rogerson has lost marketing and communications manager Jemma Smith after less than a year in the role.

Smith joined last September as the agency's first dedicated in-house PR and marketing chief. Citigate director Kevin Steeds said Smith - who was unavailable for comment as PRWeek went to press - had left the firm to travel.

Steeds said the firm was reviewing options as regards a replacement, with internal and external recruitment a possibility.

CDR director Julian Walker has taken Smith's responsibilities until a permanent successor is found. He joined the company over four years ago and acts as one of the firm's financial PR advisers.

A three-strong marketing and communications team will support Walker, comprising Ruby Harris, Debbie Fox and Haley Hart.

'A year ago we decided as a board that we needed somebody to co-ordinate the company's marketing and communications activities. We are a 200-person company and need proper full-time support functions in everything from admin and IT to marketing and communications.'

He added: 'Given our sheer size, we are acutely conscious of the need to replace Jemma.'

Last month, Bell Pottinger Communications and City PR firm Brunswick hired PR and marketing managers - for the first time in the companies' histories - hiring Luke Chauveau and Rachel Melsom respectively
