Public Affairs: The Week in Lobbying

Fleishman-Hillard London has hired senior Treasury adviser James Dowling to its public affairs and corporate comms team.

He is currently head of insurance sector policy, insurance and risk within the Treasury, having joined in 2006 from the Department for Culture, Media and Sport.

London Development Agency public affairs manager Nabil Hanafi has joined London Communications Agency as an account manager.

The Royal College of Midwives has retained PSA Communications to handle public affairs.

The agency will advise on policy development and building contacts with parliamentarians as the Health and Social Care Bill progresses.

Lord Ashdown's former speechwriter Max Atkinson and Conservative MP Conor Burns are among the speakers confirmed for the 2011 UK Speechwriters' Guild Annual Conference, being held in Bournemouth on 16 September.

The Guardian has reported that Prince Charles' charities lobbied government 'to change policies on politically sensitive topics'. The paper provided details of meetings between ministers and charities such as Business in the Community and the Prince's Foundation for the Built Environment.
