AWG, the parent company of utility firm Anglian Water, has appointed Jeff Wagland as head of corporate affairs.
Wagland joined the company last week following the departure of its PR chief Ben Welsh late last year.
Welsh has since joined merged insurance giant CGNU as director of communications and marketing services for its Norwich Union Insurance arm.
Although Welsh left at the start of December, the post lay empty for a month-and-a-half until the appointment of Wagland from Zurich Financial Services, where he has served as director of external affairs for more than three years.
AWG was formed last October by the acquisition of Morison Construction by Anglian. The water business remains the largest part of the group, although its range of facilities management activities in Chile, China and the Czech Republic account for a growing share of turnover.
In the UK, AWG provides water to 1.8 million people, making sales of over a billion pounds in 1999.
The company retains Weber Shandwick Worldwide as its corporate and financial PR firm, LLM Communications for public affairs - reporting to public affairs head Andrew Mackintosh - and Red House Lane for internal communications.
There are no plans to review agencies in the immediate future, Wagland said.
Prior to joining Zurich, Wagland worked at Brunswick for two years. He also served as press office manager for the Nationwide for two years and was a freelance business journalist for three years before that.
His new role reports to director of communications and HR Mike Keohane and oversees a staff of 12 covering all aspects of the company's internal and external communications.
