The London Development Agency - the body set up to oversee Mayor Ken Livingstone's economic regeneration strategy for the capital - has appointed Charles Wright as head of communications.

Wright joins from the London Housing Unit, where he was joint head of communications for three years.

The LHU is one of several bodies amalgamated last year into the Association of London Government's umbrella operation (PRWeek, January 19 ).

Wright, who has worked as head of press at Camden Council, will report to Tony Winterbottom, LDA director of strategic implementations and project development.

'One of the first tasks is to build a communications team as my role covers media and PR, and corporate and project marketing,' said Wright.

Wright will handle media and PR and will also be advising senior managers on internal communications, and devising branding campaigns.

'I will be immediately seeking to increase awareness of the LDA, and our economic development strategy, which is now out for consultation,' he added.

The LDA originally appointed Bell Pottinger Good Relations on a project basis to advise on the body's PR prior to its establishment in July (PRWeek, 5 May 2000).
