DIARY: Brighton is the business - no, honestly, it is!

Midnight Communications, the Brighton-based hi-tech PR company, has taken to the walls of the city's railway station to proclaim to potential new clients that their city, not London, is the place to be.

A giant poster saying 'Welcome To Silicon Beach' has been put in place for commuters, sponsored by Midnight along with fellow Brighton new media companies Spanner Works and Nvisage.

But Caraline Brown, Midnight MD, admits it may take more than a poster to convince clients that Brighton really is the place to be, in light of recent rail chaos for commuters.

She said: 'We are losing business and money, with potential clients thinking twice because of a bad experience with the trains. What we want to say is that usually it's not like this. We are the best city in Britain.'

Last week, passengers to Victoria faced a four-hour journey from the seaside resort due to a landslip en route. Irate passengers could either get a cross-country bus along the B roads of Sussex or face a diversion through the edges of Hampshire - hi-tech indeed.

Perhaps Midnight should turn its promotional tactics towards Connex and Railtrack before targeting commuters
