CLICHY: L'Oreal, the world's leading cosmetics group, has hired Pierre Simoncelli as its director of external relations.
Simoncelli, formerly a legal adviser to L'Oreal, will report to Giorgio Galli, who was named head of communications last summer (PRWeek, 4 August 2000). Galli succeeded Jean-Pierre Valeriola, who retired from his role as V-P, corporate communications and public relations.
Simoncelli's role will be to oversee all L'Oreal's relationships with the cosmetics industry and the European Commission.
The company does not retain any agencies for corporate PR.
L'Oreal Group sells a range of goods, from professional hair products to luxury items. Its brands include Lancome, Cacharel fragrances, and the Laboratoires Garnier and Plenitude ranges.
In December 2000 it reported sales of nearly pounds 6bn for the first nine months of the year.
In the past year it has acquired Kiehl's and Matrix, and announced a strategic agreement with Shu Uemura cosmetics.
