Finnish telecoms giant Sonera Zed has appointed Jackie Cooper PR to support the UK consumer launch of its mobile portal brand in March this year.
The agency will work alongside advertising agency Leo Burnett and marketing agency Claydon Heeley Jones Mason to produce the marketing communications campaign. It will target the youth market, promoting the portal's services, which are based on text messaging.
Four agencies competed for the account, which is worth a five-figure fee.
Sonera Zed's portal will allow mobile phone users on any network to sign up at zed.com, and receive or access information. This will be as varied as daily horoscopes and sports reports to restaurant guides and cinema listings.
JCPR client services director Ginny Paton said the service would target those 'who plan their evening in the back of a taxi'. The agency reports to Zed's UK marketing manager, Richard Hancock.
Sonera is the largest telephony operator in Finland, and Zed is a brand it has introduced in several countries including The Netherlands, Singapore and Turkey.
