The Institution of Engineering and Technology, a registered charity, has briefed the agency to position it as the authority on industry regulations across the UK’s electrical and electronics sectors. Kindred was appointed after a competitive pitch.
The IET will specifically work with Kindred to launch the first code of practice to give guidance on the installation of charging points for electric vehicles, which is a growing requirement.
Kindred’s client service director Lorna Gozzard said: ‘It’s a real growth area – the code is needed, otherwise people will be installing the charging points in lots of different ways.’
Gozzard added that Kindred would be working closely with the trade press, handling media relations, giveaways and online activities, as well as dealing directly with stakeholders such as contractors and compliance managers.
The RAC Foundation has commented that the take-up by motorists of a government scheme to promote green vehicles has been ‘less than electrifying’.
The foundation said just 215 electric cars were bought under the Government’s plug-in car grant scheme during the period April-June 2011.
Kindred will also handle a trade media campaign to launch the IET’s new wiring regulations, which are being updated in January.
IET marketing manager Sue Bishop said: ‘Having recently changed our name from the IEE to the IET, we have asked Kindred to support us in positioning the new brand as the authoritative voice on industry regulations and issues relating to them.’
