Internet bank Egg is to review its external PR consultancies following the appointment of Emma Byrne as head of PR and corporate communications.
Byrne takes over next week at Egg, which launched two years ago and is controlled by financial services giant Prudential. Egg retains Brunswick for financial PR and Biss Lancaster on a consumer brief.
Although specific plans for the repitch are at an early stage, it is understood all communications activities will be reviewed by Byrne upon taking up the role.
In the new post Byrne will report to the bank's CEO Paul Gratton and will manage an in-house team of four that is set to expand in the coming months. Her appointment follows that of trade and consumer PR manager Rebecca Gudgeon, who joined two months ago from Manning Selvage & Lee.
Byrne, whose remit covers media relations and public affairs, joins from Weber Shandwick, where she has been an associate director at the agency for five years including a spell heading the IKEA corporate PR account.
Prior to that she spent a year at Arthur Andersen's Scottish legal arm Dorman Jeffrey and two years in Scottish Power's corporate affairs team.
In a previous three-year stint at Shandwick, she was European marketing manager.
An early issue for Byrne to deal with will be Egg's first year results, due shortly after she takes control.
She will also need to update the news section of the Egg website, where the most recent press release is dated 18 July 2000.
