Public Affairs: The Week in Lobbying

BP has hired a former MI6 agent as a lobbyist, according to a report in the Mail on Sunday. The newspaper described the former officer as a Russia and China specialist, but agreed not to publish the name of the individual. Other former MI6 officers hired by BP include Sir Mark Allen, a special adviser since 2004 on its Middle East interests.

Age UK is looking for a head of public policy following the departure of Sara Osborne after a year with the charity. It follows the news that Age UK director of policy and public affairs Andrew Harrop is moving to the Fabian Society as general secretary.

The Optical Confederation has recruited Jenny Gowen as head of public affairs. She was formerly senior parliamentary adviser at anti-animal experiments group BUAV.

The Royal College of Paediatrics and Child Health has appointed British Lung Foundation parliamentary and campaigns officer Karmjit Kaur as public affairs co-ordinator.

G4S, the security services group, has signed up former TubeLines head of public affairs Vincent McGovern as public affairs manager for its UK Cash Solutions division.
