French independent fund manager Carmignac Gestion has brought in the City agency to support its UK comms and media relations before significant UK expansion.
The firm, which was founded in 1989 by current chairman Edouard Carmignac, had assets under management of EUR55bn at the end of December 2010. Now it has decided to enter the highly competitive UK market.
Maitland will highlight the firm's long track record of success in emerging markets and commodities, including its ability to grow managed assets through the recent financial crisis.
The agency will report to Agnes Severin, co-head of comms at Carmignac Gestion in Paris, who confirmed the appointment and that Maitland will support the launch of its UK business.
The account will be led by William Clutterbuck, head of Maitland's financial services practice. He said: 'Carmignac Gestion has built a solid reputation with the investment media across Europe. The firm has an opportunistic and non-benchmarked approach to fund management. We look forward to achieving the same recognition in the UK media.'
