Maitland raids rival City agency Brunswick to hire Tom Buchanan as senior partner

City PR shop Maitland has hired Tom Buchanan, a partner at rival agency Brunswick.

Buchanan will join Maitland as a senior partner at the end of his notice period in mid-September after 18 years at Brunswick.

He joined Brunswick from PriceWaterhouse in 1993 and spent four years in New York establishing the firm’s US presence.

Since returning to London in 2000, Buchanan has been responsible for Brunswick’s TMT and IPO practices, with clients including Gucci Group, Logica, Britvic, WHSmith, French Connection and Intercontinental Hotel Group.

Neil Bennett, chief executive of Maitland, commented: ‘As a Brunswick veteran Tom brings us real depth of experience in advising companies in many sectors, with a special focus on TMT and retail.  He has deep M&A, crisis and IPO experience, and a reputation for strong team development skills.’

Maitland has also hired Sophie Fitton, also a former partner at Brunswick, as client relations consultant. In this new role, Fitton will evaluate client relations and look to ensure all of Maitland’s clients get the best from the firm.

Meanwhile, Maitland partner Anthony Silverman has joined Stockwell Group as the group’s first new partner since its establishment earlier this year.

Silverman, currently a partner at Maitland, will reunite with Philip Gawith, former chief executive of Maitland and co-founder of Stockwell.

At Maitland Silverman advised companies including Cable & Wireless Communications, Close Brothers Group, ICAP, Man Group, SVG Capital and UK Financial Investments.
