Riggins was previously director of APCO Insight for EMEA, the firm’s polling and research practice. Before that he served as MD, Europe for KRC Research, Weber Shandwick’s opinion research division.

Riggins will work alongside former Opinion Leader Research director Graeme Trayner, who set up Brunswick Research in 2006.

Brunswick’s research arm specialises in using research techniques to help companies and organisations inform and measure their comms and policy strategies.

Brunswick said in a statement: ‘Brunswick Research has grown significantly over the past five years, both in terms of clients and geographical reach, and Phil’s arrival marks the next stage in the group’s growth.’

The practice has teams in London and Brussels and plans to open operations in Hong Kong and the US in the next 12 months.

Riggins has also held various senior research roles in his native US, working for SWR Worldwide and the State Department. His expertise is particularly in the healthcare, pharma, food and beverage and technology sectors.
