As PRWeek says Merry Christmas and farewell to 2000, with the final issue this year, Diary would like to salute a couple of agencies whose efforts in putting the fun back into Christmas celebrations are worthy of a gold star.
Diary was particularly impressed by Eulogy!, which flew the whole of its staff to New York for a shopping weekend. And Borkowski PR celebrated by reminding staff of the true meaning of Christmas, with a nativity play written by receptionist Natasha Redhead.
In true primary school fashion, invitations came hand-written and coloured in. But the casting itself was somewhat unorthodox.
Agency boss Mark Borkowski played the Virgin Mary and new business director Larry Franks took the role of Joseph, who had a suspiciously close relationship with the donkey.
Copywriter Mike Gilmore starred as the Angel Gabriel, assisted by four less-than-holy angels. And the role of Baby Jesus was taken by Tess, a Cavalier King Charles spaniel (letters from fundamentalist Christians directly to the agency, please - Diary had no say in the casting).
Borkowski staff failed to convince Diary that theatreland luminaries Cameron Mackintosh and Trevor Nunn had left the performance mere minutes before PRWeek arrived.
But having seen Borkowski's Nativity play, it only seems logical that the West End, or indeed Broadway is calling the agency.
