Youth charity Futureversity has joined forces with financial agency FWD to create a PR summer school this August. This will allow 12 young people from Tower Hamlets to experience financial PR, work with the media and develop comms skills.
Futureversity has worked with City institutions such as Bank, Allen & Overy and Morgan Stanley on similar summer schemes, but FWD is the first City PR firm to get involved.
The charity partners with firms to provide positive and career-enhancing training and activities during the school holidays, which can otherwise become a 'significant time for kids to drift into gangs, crime and drugs', Futureversity said.
Michael Gaughan, MD of FWD Group, explained: 'The City is a hugely wealthy area located next door to some very deprived inner-city areas, and we are keen to give some of the kids from these areas the chance to gain skills that could help them find jobs and benefit from employment opportunities the City and PR offer.'
When the programme was first launched in Oldham in 2009 in partnership with local police, it saw youth crime cut by 68 per cent in the area.
