Campaign: Look after someone? Who looks after you?
Client: NHS Northamptonshire
PR team: Communications Management
Timescale: September 2010-March 2011
Budget: £41,500

OBJECTIVES

- To raise the profile of carers and caring so that the general public understands how to support them

- To encourage health and social care professionals to identify and support carers.

STRATEGY AND PLAN

The PR team created a campaign around the results of qualitative and quantitative research conducted with carers and health and social care professionals. To reward and recognise carers, an award scheme was launched in partnership with the Northants Evening Telegraph and the Northampton Chronicle & Echo. School PSHE co-ordinators also used PowerPoint presentations in lessons as a springboard for discussions.

MEASUREMENT AND EVALUATION

Case study-led features ran in the Evening Telegraph and Chronicle & Echo, in addition to ten items of coverage on BBC Radio Northampton and Inspiration FM.

RESULTS

According to a post-campaign carers' survey, 43 per cent of carers had heard of it, 20 per cent felt encouraged to be more open about their role and 35 per cent said it had helped to raise the profile of carers.
