MEDIA: Stern named as new Dow Jones European editor

Dow Jones Newswires, the real-time financial news provider, has appointed Gabriella Stern as senior editor Europe with a brief to strengthen equities coverage, expand commentaries and develop local language versions.

Dow Jones Newswires, the real-time financial news provider, has appointed Gabriella Stern as senior editor Europe with a brief to strengthen equities coverage, expand commentaries and develop local language versions.

Stern joins from the Wall Street Journal, which is owned by Dow Jones, where she was news editor for health and science. She will have overall responsibility for the news operation in the region which includes 225 journalists between Dublin and Dubai.

'I will focus on further expanding our equities coverage in response to ever increasing demands from our users,' said Stern. 'In addition to our stock price information and market news, I will enhance our commentary features and develop local language services.'

The development of local language services follows the success of DJ Bourse - a French language version of the EU Market Talk news service.

In particular, offerings in German, Italian and Indonesian are being developed.

Stern has 20 years' experience in journalism, joining Dow Jones in 1991 in the Pittsburg office of the Wall Street Journal. She will report to Richard Levine, Dow Jones Newswires managing editor.
