Urban technology specialist Living PlanIT is constructing PlanIT Valley, a technology-filled zero-carbon city. The fully wired community of 110,000 will be based in Paredes, north Portugal. The project is due to be completed by 2015.
Edelman will promote the PlanIT Valley outside of Portugal to potential investors, partners and customers.
Cairbre Sugrue, Edelman's UK MD of technology, said: 'With the earth's population set to nearly double by 2050, and the majority of people expected to be living in cities, the pressure to create more sustainable urban environments is huge. We will be working to address one of the most fundamental problems facing this planet.'
As part of the wider campaign, the company wants Edelman to help promote its plans to explore how a connected sensor network can be used in the management of buildings. These sensors can monitor and control pressure, power, sound, video, temperature and vibration. The city will also be home to a global innovation centre, helping researchers develop urban city blueprints for the future.
Edelman will work closely with Kreab Gavin Anderson, which has a global brief for Living PlanIT's investor and financial comms, and government relations.
