LV= Asset Management, the asset management arm of LV=, has chosen Quill PR as its retained PR consultancy following a competitive pitch. Quill, last week acquired by Buchanan Communications, will report to Katie de Pelet, LVAM's head of media relations.

Betfred, the bookmaker, used Tulchan Communications to help it gain control of the Tote bookmaking chain. The firm beat Sir Martin Broughton's Brunswick-advised Sports Investment Partners to secure the £265m deal.

Stockwell Group has appointed Close Brothers' Robert Morgan as an associate. Morgan was responsible for Close Brothers' corporate comms.

CitySavvy, the financial and corporate comms agency, has launched a dedicated creative comms brand called CSblue. The venture will operate out of London and Amsterdam with clients including ABN AMRO Clearing and Deloitte.

Catalina Holdings, the Bermuda-based insurer, has called in College Hill to support its acquisitive growth strategy.

Burson-Marsteller has launched a global energy practice. It is bringing together 100 consultants, including Bill Royce and Roland Bilang, chair and director of the agency's EMEA energy environment & climate change business respectively.
