Merlin advises A&NN on proposed Waterstone's takeover.

Claire Jenkins, group director, corporate affairs at FTSE 100 firm Rexam, has joined the board of Sports Direct International as a non-executive director. Previously she was at international tobacco firm Gallaher Group, where she led investor relations. She is also a non-executive director of the Investor Relations Society.

Merlin is advising A&NN Group, an investment subsidiary of the family trust associated with international investor Alexander Mamut, on its proposed acquisition of book shop chain Waterstone's from HMV Group. The Merlin team is led by chief executive Paul Downes. The £53m agreement to acquire the chain was announced on 20 May.

Chaarat Gold, a gold exploration and development firm operating in Kyrgystan, has called in Pelham Bell Pottinger to handle financial PR. The agency will support the firm's corporate and financial comms, with Charles Vivian, director and head of mining at the agency, leading the account.

Andes Energia, an Argentinean oil and gas firm, has handed its retained financial PR to Buchanan. The AIM-listed firm had used Bishopsgate Communications. The Buchanan team is headed by oil and gas partner Tim Thompson.

Epistem, a UK-based biotechnology and research company, has appointed Walbrook PR to support its financial PR and IR. The agency will advise Epistem on its comms with the UK investment community and private client investment managers. Walbrook will work alongside Epistem's existing PR agency, De Facto Communications.
