The changes to the team structure have come after the airport operator’s former corporate affairs director Malcolm Robertson resigned earlier this year.

Robertson was replaced by Clare Harbord, who was previously director of communications at the Ministry of Justice. The firm has also promoted Simon Baugh internally from the role of director of airport comms to become director of media relations.

Teacher said: 'I've had tremendous fun at BAA and learned a great deal, but I've always been one to do what feels right and that's why I'm looking for a change now.

'I've been lucky to build up some great contacts working on high profile stories across aviation, politics, property and retail, but I'm looking forward to a new challenge where I can drive some big proactive stories and use some of my experience managing one of the country's busiest press offices.

'I'm sure BAA's new media and corporate affairs directors will do a great job taking the new team forward.'

BAA poached Teacher from the British Property Federation to become head of media relations in September 2010.
