THQ International, the third-party publisher for the Nintendo Game Boy Colour console, has appointed Revolver Communications to handle consumer PR for future releases.
Revolver is the first agency to be retained by THQ, which has to date been appointed on a project basis for logistical reasons. The agency was appointed without a pitch on account of its gaming experience.
The account will be led by Revolver MD Martin Ballantine, who reports to THQ senior PR manager Asam Ahmad.
The account, understood to be worth six-figure fees, has been awarded for an initial one-year period, with Revolver hoping that the quality of its work will lead to an extension.
Ballantine confirmed that in addition to core media work, the agency would work on 'guerrilla marketing opportunities' and news creation strategies, as well as targeting the specialist gaming media.
