DairyCo, a not-for-profit body funded by a levy on milk products, held a three-way pitch last month for an agency to champion the industry to consumers, media and regulators.
Nexus director Jon Meakin said that the fees are still to be confirmed.
Meakin said: ‘We will be stepping up the activity we have already started, to promote a positive image of the dairy farming sector - not just to consumers, but to all of the industry’s stakeholders.
‘This will involve not only traditional media relations but an increasing use of social media and the digital space. Modern dairy farming uses some cutting edge technology so it seems appropriate that we do too.’
DairyCo is part of the Agriculture & Horticulture Development Board (AHDB) and is obliged to put various pieces of business out to pitch for its roster of agencies.
Nexus was first appointed by DairyCo in 2009, before the roster was introduced, to handle an issues management brief.
This has subsequently evolved into a more proactive campaign, which included the development of a website. Nexus has been shortlisted for a CIPR Excellence Award for its work on the website.
Earlier this month, PRWeek revealed that another AHDB subsidiary BPEX, the body representing English pig farmers, is looking for an agency to handle comms for British Sausage Week.
