New Musical Express has promoted James Oldham from live reviews, which he has edited for two years, to deputy editor of the IPC title. He replaces John Mulvey, who left to go freelance in October. Oldham joined NME as a freelance in 1996 before moving to edit the weekly's On section a year later. He will report to editor Ben Knowles.
