Lexis PR is planning to expand into public affairs with the hire of PoliticsDirect co-founder John Arnold.

The consumer agency has appointed Arnold as a consultant and plans to make two further hires in order to build a three-strong public affairs team. Arnold established PoliticsDirect in 1999, along with David Beamer.

He is also chairman of Tweetminster, the Twitter-based sentiment analysis company.

Orbit Communications, a PR and public affairs agency, has been set up by Alex Orr, Alex Bruce and James Tout. Orr led the campaign for a smoking ban in Scotland, Bruce is a former head of government relations for Vauxhall Motors and Tout has worked in Scottish government comms. The agency is based in Edinburgh.

Hill & Knowlton International Belgium has appointed Michael Voordeckers as associate director on the EU public affairs team.

He has previously worked as an adviser to the Federation of Belgian Enterprises.

Media Intelligence Partners, the lobbying firm run by Nick Wood, is expanding into profile management with a new arm, MiPeople. Initial clients include Harry Cole, news editor of the Guido Fawkes website.
