Diary: ... but Cosmo girls keep their feet on the ground

A grand total of five women from the PR industry are on the shortlist as finalists for Cosmopolitan's Women of Achievement Awards.

They are: Gaby Zein, MD of Freud Communications; Caroline MacAteer, a director at the Outside Organisation; Narda Shirley, women's magazine regular and MD of Gnash Communications; Zara Reid of CSI Public Relations; and finally Frankie Burstin, MD of Public Image Communications, and a past runner-up in the PR Week Awards.

Simply making the shortlist of around ten women in the sales, marketing and PR category is an achievement in itself. Thousands of women are nominated by readers, industry figures and Cosmo staff before 100 women from different occupations are shortlisted.

The ceremony takes place next week and will be attended by luminaries like Mo Mowlam and GMTV's Dr Raj Persaud.

But Frankie Burstin, who was nominated by a former employee, isn't letting all the glamour go to her head.

'It's nice to be nominated, but whoever wins it's good for women and it's good for the PR industry,' she says modestly.
