Alliance Capital, the world's largest publicly traded asset management firm, has hired a new PR chief to spear-head its expansion across Europe.
Tariq Ahmad started this week at Alliance, as director of PR and marketing communications for Europe.
In his new post he reports to the company's senior vice-president of marketing in New York, Ricard Khaleel.
Ahmad joins from the Royal Bank of Scotland group. He has spent the last seven months as head of branding and publicity for RBS's corporate banking and financial markets division.
Prior to that, he worked for 18 months as PR and business development manager for corporate banking at NatWest until the takeover by RBS in February.
A two year spell as head of European strategy development preceded that, during which he oversaw external relations including marketing and PR.
Beforehand, he spent three years in the NatWest corporate affairs department.
In his newly-created role - which was previously handled from New York - he is tasked with building a team of five from scratch.
He is also charged with bringing in external agency support for Alliance.
The firm used HBS International to assist with its launch into the German market earlier this year but has no agencies on its books in London.
Ahmad is looking to hire two agencies, a consumer agency to target retail buyers of financial services products and another to focus on relations with institutional investors.
Alliance has over pounds 200 billion of assets under management. Although it already has 27 global affiliates, it plans to expand in Europe beyond its current list of offices in Munich, Madrid, Paris and Reykjavik.
