Jo Gibbons worked as a senior adviser in Downing Street from 2004 to 2007 as deputy director of government relations and then director of events. Prior to working for Blair, she was a board directer at Edelman.

At the same time, Populus has hired Alexia Latham, associate director at EuroRSCG Biss Lancaster. She takes the same title at the polling firm.

The hires follow the departure of Populus MD Andrew Cooper, who left earlier this year to become David Cameron's director of strategy at Number 10 Downing Street.

Populus founder Michael Simmonds said the company planned to make further appointments in the next six months.
