IBIZA: Joe Public Relations, the London-based consumer PR agency, is to open an office for 'the season' in Ibiza.
The office will be open from April to September 2001 on the popular Balearic island. Plans are to staff it with one or two people from the London office, as well as 'tapping into local knowledge', according to Joe Public Relations managing director Matthew Wood.
'Loads of companies are already spending heavily on projects in Ibiza, but have no means of backing that spend up with strong support on the ground,' he said.
The agency will be offering PR support, along with any other marketing requirements companies may have, be it sampling or postcard promotions.
Over two million British tourists visit Ibiza ever year, mainly for its club-oriented lifestyle. With a core of 16 to 24-year-old visitors, it offers brands many opportunities to position themselves at the forefront of youth culture.
'We want to provide that additional marketing back-up out there by offering clients JPR consultants with a UK agency background and keen understanding of youth marketing, plus a sound knowledge of the Ibiza scene,' said Wood.
The move to establish an Ibiza office is one of the steps JPR is taking to strengthen its youth marketing offering.
The agency has also recently hired Kevin Redfern as associate director.
He was formerly the head of SLAM, the youth marketing division of BSMG Worldwide.
Joe Public Relations was founded in 1998, and has a staff of 40 people.
It retains clients such as Umbro, Tesco.com and Clickmusic.
