KP Nuts has given its consumer and trade PR brief to Leeds-based Leedex GTPR after a three-way pitch. It was previously held by Countrywide Porter Novelli.
The company is based in Rotherham, and it is believed it was particularly searching for a local agency.
Leedex GTPR director Richard Harrison heads the account, reporting to Aoife Burnell, marketing manager. She said it was GTPR's 'sound knowledge of the sector' which swung the pitch their way. However, the agency retains no other food clients, although it has handled some work for Weetabix.
For the present, Leedex GTPR will continue working on activity already in place.
Next year a new programme will be introduced. Harrison said it would focus on 'educating consumers about the importance nuts play in a balanced lifestyle'.
Activity is about to be ramped up in the pre-Christmas period, where more nuts are sold than at any other time of the year - around 40 per cent of annual sales.
KP Nuts will introduce special Christmas products for this time.
KP Nuts is part of United Biscuits' KP Snacks group, which also makes Walkers crisps and Skips.
KP's below-the-line spend last year was in the region of pounds 5 million, but no individual PR budgets or fees are released.
