Networking solutions giant 3com has awarded Spark Communications its permanent UK PR brief.
3com switched from PR agency of three-and-a-half-years, Kaizo, in August 2000, appointing Spark on a project-by-project basis.
Now the networking systems provider has formalised the relationship, handing Spark an annual retainer brief without a competitive pitch.
Spark reports to Majella Gilgunn, 3com UK PR and marcomms manager.
Gilgunn said one of the agency's main tasks this year will be to handle consumer and business-to-business PR surrounding the UK launch of the firm's online radio and TV services.
In March 2000 3com had a major restructure, spinning off flagship brand Palm to concentrate on networking markets and high growth technologies.
Kaizo continues to handle UK PR for Palm. 'We agreed they'd be better off with a smaller agency,' said Kaizo CEO Crispin Manners.
