The Cyprus Tourism Organisation has appointed Marketeer to handle its UK PR for the next two years.
The appointment is timely as Thomas Cook predicts Cyprus is set for a record-breaking holiday season.
The account was awarded after an open pitch advertised in PRWeek last autumn. An estimated eight agencies were invited to pitch.
Marketeer will promote the island to the conference and incentive market as well as the consumer and trade press.
'Our brief is to develop tourism for the family market, winter market, and more specialist markets such as walking holidays,' said Marketeer chief executive Keith Searby.
Cyprus resort Agia Napa has gained much exposure in recent years, rivalling Ibiza as a summer destination for youths. 'We will make sure that Agia Napa is known for more than just the club scene - a larger part is a family resort,' said Searby.
A team of four, headed by Searby, will report to the CTO's London-based communications director Orestis Rossides.
The agency replaces incumbent Communications in Business, which worked on the account for 18 months, until December 1999.
