2 April: Cricket World Cup final Mumbai. The showpiece event for the One Day International format, held at Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.

3 April: Mothering Sunday UK Also known as Mother's Day.

4 April: Charity album in aid of Japan earthquake victims released on CD. Following the iTunes release on 25 March, the album featuring artists such as John Lennon, Lady Gaga, Adele, Eminem and Leona Lewis will be put out on CD. Profits will be donated to the Japanese Red Cross Society to benefit those affected by the earthquake and tsunami.

5 April: House of Commons rises for Easter recess Westminster, London. The House of Lords follows suit on 6 April and both return on 26 April.

7 April: Julian Assange's book published WikiLeaks Versus The World: My Story by WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange is published across Europe, Australia and South America.

7 April: UK interest rate decision. The Bank of England's Monetary Policy Committee announces its latest interest rate decision. Interest rates have been unchanged since March 2009.

9 April: Grand National Aintree Racecourse, Merseyside. The pinnacle of the UK jump racing calendar will see 40 runners and riders tackle the epic race.
