Santander has appointed Jennifer Scardino as its new director of comms for corporate social responsibility and public policy. She was most recently MD of corporate affairs EMEA region at Citigroup. She replaces Matthew Young, who has moved to Lloyds Banking Group with new CEO Antonio Horta-Osorio.

MHP Communications corporate MD Brooke Clarke is moving in-house to become director of global corporate comms at Dublin-based pharma firm Shire. Clarke will lead Shire's global internal comms strategy, reporting to Jessica Mann, senior vice-president, global corporate comms & government relations.

Better Capital, the London-listed investment firm, has called in Powerscourt to handle comms. The Guernsey-based company invests in distressed businesses going through restructuring.

Mace, the international construction company, has appointed Richard Holligan as PR manager. He joins from Eurostar where he was a senior press officer.

Redwood Consulting has hired Steven Hilton as account director. He was previously media relations manager for the National Landlords Association and will look after real estate clients including The Crown Estate and Cluttons.
