Healthcare: The Week in Healthcare - Sanofi-Aventis drug approved

Sanofi-Aventis' new chemotherapy treatment Jevtana (cabazitaxel) has been approved by the European Commission to treat advanced prostate cancer.

The treatment, approved last year in the US, has now been given the green light in Europe to be used in combination with the steroid prednisone.

Janssen's EMEA marketing comms manager Alex Butler has set up a Twitter group to provide a network for discussing social media and its impact on healthcare in the UK. The group is called Health Care Social Media UK, or #hcsmuk.

The EHI Awards 2011, in association with BT, now include a new award for the best use of social media in healthcare. Entries are invited from agencies and in-house teams across the sector, including healthcare charities as well as pharma. The judging panel includes Christine Connelly, director general informatics, at the Department of Health. The deadline for entries is 3 June.

The National Pharmacy Association has been advising pharmacists who are seeking advice on handling requests from customers for radiation sickness treatment, potassium iodide, following the radiation leak in Japan.
