One of the best known names in the City - Sir Richard Kleinwort, founding partner of Cardew and Co - has joined Ogilvy PR Worldwide to spearhead the launch of its UK financial and IR division.
The banking heir left Cardew nine years after he helped set up the agency with four fellow partners from rival PR firm Grandfield Rork Collins Financial.
Reporting to Ogilvy London MD Donna Zurcher, Sir Richard takes on the task of launching the division from scratch.
His immediate remit will be to build the sector's client base among existing Ogilvy clients, and start recruiting to build up the financial team.
Kleinwort hopes to boost his team of two to five by April, with a view to expand to 20 staff by 2003.
Rob Shimmin, Ogilvy global corporate practice MD, said: 'This is a key hire, not only for London but the entire global corporate practice. IR programmes, often involving IPOs, are increasingly acting as the catalyst for major global branding assignments.'
Prior to Cardew, Kleinwort was associate director at Grandfield, an account manager at Biss Lancaster, a manager in Deutsche Bank's corporate practice in Hamburg and Frankfurt, and worked for three months at family business Kleinwort Benson.
