Combined utilities company United Utilities is seeking a group

director of corporate communications to replace John Drummond, who is

leaving.

Drummond will stay until the end of July in order to oversee the

transition period himself. He and human resources director David Scott

will look for a replacement.

There are no plans to change the scope of the role, which involves

responsibility for media relations, public policy, employee

communication and the company’s impact on society generally.

Among the challenges for the new recruit will be overseeing moves to

introduce pounds 400 million in efficiency savings over the next five

years as required by gas and electricity regulator Ofgen and water

regulator Ofwat. Other issues include moves towards e-commerce and

generating further growth.

The new recruit will head a communications team of eight serving United

Utilities. The communication teams for its branded companies, including

Norweb, North West Water and the call centre operator Vertex, report to

their respective managing directors.

Drummond, who has been at the company for seven years, is joining the

board of Liverpool-based corporate communications company Corporate

Culture.
