Esure, the planned internet insurance venture from the Halifax, has
hired the Wriglesworth Consultancy on six-figure fees to handle PR and
its launch next year.
The consultancy, which was appointed without a pitch on a rolling
contract, is Esure’s first full-service agency appointment. It will also
advise on all corporate, business-to-business and consumer PR.
Esure is headed by Direct Line founder Peter Wood, and launches early in
2001. The account at Wriglesworth will be led by director Laura
O’Connell, formerly director of communications at Direct Line. She
reports to marketing director Ian Craig.
The Halifax’s announcement of its pounds 150 million capital investment
in Esure on 17 February added pounds 2.25 billion to the bank’s market
value. It will provide on-line cover to private motorists and homeowners
and expects to become one of the UK’s top five motor insurers.
The Wriglesworth Consultancy was set up as a strategic financial PR
agency in 1998 by MD John Wriglesworth, a former partner at Brunswick.
