Seb Gordon joined last week and manages a 24/7 press desk of four. He takes over management of the brigade's media function following the recent Fire Brigades Union strikes.
Gordon said: 'I'm looking forward to using the brigade's excellent reputation to build the go-to press office for fire and rescue stories both in the capital and the UK at large.'
Gordon joins the brigade from his role as senior media officer at national consumer champion Consumer Focus, and will lead on fire safety campaigns targeting those most at risk from fire. He reports to head of comms Richard Stokoe.
Meanwhile, the Fire Brigade has launched an official Twitter feed (twitter.com/LondonFire), where the public and media can be kept informed during major fire incidents.
