Bare, the health and lifestyle magazine to be launched by John

Brown Publishing this Autumn, has recruited the features editor of the

Mail on Sunday’s colour supplement and the editor of Harvey Nichols’

magazine HN.

Bare’s editor is Ilse Crawford, who founded Elle Decoration in the UK

and edited the magazine for eight years.

David Vincent, features editor of Night and Day, the Mail on Sunday’s

magazine, for eight months, joined the Bare launch team this month as

Crawford’s deputy. Anna-Marie Solowij, who has edited HN for the last

three years, has also joined as fashion and beauty editor.

Vincent was chief sub at the Observer’s Life magazine before joining the

Mail. As well as sub-editing, Vincent wrote for the magazine and the

main paper on TV, motoring and travel. Solowij was health and beauty

director at UK Elle between 1990 and 1996, and before joining HN she set

up mail order beauty magazine Beauty Quest and freelanced for Marie

Claire, the Guardian and Wallpaper.

Bare will cover subjects, including food, health, style, beauty, travel,

architecture, design and ecology. Crawford said: ’We describe it as a

wellbeing lifestyle magazine. It’s not prescriptive. It’s perfectly

possible to show heels and yoga, vodka and vitamins.’

The publisher is Honor Riley, who joined John Brown in 1999 from Conde

Nast.
