Waples joined the financial comms agency in early 2010 as a senior managing director after 25 years as a journalist. He takes on responsibility for the strategic direction and operational functions of FD's UK business.
Waples' promotion is one of a number of changes to FD's senior team across the globe.
Also today Mark McCall, senior MD, has been named head of FD Americas; and Beth Saunders, senior MD, has been promoted to chairman of FD Americas. Additionally, Ross Thornton will move from Asia Pacific to the UK office with specific responsibility to help grow the firm's global M&A comms business.
These appointments follow the recent naming of Ed Reilly as global CEO and Geoffrey Pelham-Lane as global president of FD.
Reilly commented: 'Our market leadership is defined in large part by the depth and breadth of our senior management team. John, Mark and Beth are outstanding examples of world-class leaders who have executed time and time again on our vision to redefine our industry. Each is uniquely suited to their respective new role, which makes us well positioned for the future.'
McCall joined the firm in 2004 and served as head of FD's special situations practice, which focuses on crisis-driven business. Saunders joined the firm in 2007 through the firm's acquisition of Ashton Partners, an independent investor relations firm she co-founded.
Later this year FD will re-brand under the banner of its parent company FTI Consulting, although the precise new name for the financial comms agency remains unknown.
