Logistics force Jungle.com to close press office

Jungle.com, the on-line computer hardware, software and

entertainment retailer, has closed its London press office with the loss

of two PROs.

Jungle marketing director Andy Singleton blamed logistics for the

closure.

’It’s very difficult running a PR department in London when your office

is in Birmingham,’ he said. ’We struggled to get information from here

to there - we weren’t communicating properly. I hold my hand up, it is

no reflection on the people involved.’

Responsibility for the account now rests with the Knowle office of the

company’s agency McCann-Weber, which is eight miles away from Jungle’s

Coleshill HQ. Jacqui Power, group account director, consumer, leads a

four-strong team there and reports to Singleton.

The brief is mainly media relations. ’We are building the consumer

understanding of Jungle’s products and services,’ said Power.

Jungle retains one in-house PRO based in Coleshill. The London PROs were

offered a relocation package but declined, Singleton said.

Chris Cox, who led Cohn and Wolfe’s launch promotion for Jungle, said

that the London press office barely got off the ground: ’It was

something they tried to do but it never really established itself.’
