Mark Watson has left his position as communications director at gay

rights organisation Stonewall for Gay.com, which launches a UK site this

week.

He takes the role of communications and marketing director.

Gay.com has also hired Shandwick Public Affairs to handle corporate PR,

following a pitch against Countrywide Porter Novelli. The account will

be headed by account director Andrew Griffin, who reports to Watson.

Watson, who worked for the Home Office before joining Stonewall seven

years ago, says Gay.com will be about bringing information to the gay

community, as well as being fun. ’Gay.com is not a bystander, but an

active participant,’ he said.

Gay.com was founded in 1994 in the US, and now receives 140,000 unique

visitors from the UK each month.
