- 10 March: Crufts opens NEC, Birmingham. Crufts is the world's largest dog show with around 28,000 canines expected to take part.

- 11 March: WOW: Women of the World festival Southbank Centre, London. The inaugural WOW: Women of the World festival celebrating the achievements of women across the arts. Runs until 13 March.

- 11 March: Rupert Murdoch's 80th birthday. The Australian media mogul and founder, CEO and chair of News Corporation turns 80.

- 12 March: British Tourism Week. The annual event run by VisitBritain. The aim of the week is to raise awareness of the size and value of Britain's visitor economy.

- 15 March: London 2012 countdown clock unveiled Trafalgar Square, London. A 21ft-high digital countdown clock will be unveiled today to mark 500 days until the official opening of the Olympic Games. The ticket application window opens today and runs until 26 April.

- 15 March: Cheltenham Festival begins. This year marks 100 years of the Cheltenham Festival horseracing meeting and today's feature race is the Champion Hurdle. The Gold Cup will be held on 18 March.

- 16 March: Orange Prize for Fiction longlist. The longlist for the prestigious prize awarded for fiction written by a woman is announced. This year's judging panel is chaired by Bettany Hughes. The winner is announced on 8 June.
