City & Corporate: Qatar-focused fund turns to Maitland

The only UK-listed fund primarily focused on Qatar has brought in new advisers as it looks to capitalise on the country's hosting of the FIFA World Cup in 2022.

Epicure Qatar Equity Opportunities has enlisted City agency Maitland as its retained financial PR adviser, having previously used financial PR boutique Milbourne.

The fund was established in 2007, but is now looking to boost its profile with a new name and increased media presence.

The AIM-listed firm has pledged to list on the main market of the London Stock Exchange and plans to change its name to the Qatar Investment Fund to more clearly label the company and help woo new investors.

The firm hopes to take advantage of the increased global media exposure of Qatar since the country was named as host for the 2022 World Cup.

Qatar has thus far avoided the protests sweeping through the Middle East and earlier this month the fund released a report detailing the 'compelling investment case for the world's fastest growing economy'.

Maitland recently organised a media roundtable on investment in Qatar for the company. The agency won the fund's retained PR account off the back of the event's success. Consultant William Clutterbuck will lead the account.
